Three years ago, in laSIA research group (UPV/EHU) we started a little project called Serantes Seminar; since then, our interest in landscape has been a constant (https://lasiaweb.com/en/tag/montana-en/).

The starting point them was the historic climb of Mont Ventoux by Francesco Petrarca, in which the pleasure of sightseing the landscape succumbs to the moral conflict that is generated in the poet. Despite the distance, it still seems to us a valid reference to consider the possibilities of continuing to aesthetically appreciate the environment.

Today, in the middle of the climate crisis, we want to ask the landscape; situate ourselves in the reflexive distance that the term itself defines. This seminar wants to open a dialogue from contemporary artistic practices: is it necessary to relocate the gaze that historically turned the territory into landscape? Does it make sense to continue talking about landscape or should we perhaps approach it from the notion of environment?, and in that case, What would be the consequences? How does current art address these issues?
